Name
Mo Ryot
What is your profession?
I’m a recording artist from Atlanta, and I go by Mo Ryot.
How did you get into the field that you are in today?
Music has been part of my life forever, I’ve been singing since i could speak, when I got to middle school I started taking orchestra and band, playing trombone, baritone, and violin. Then on my free time at home I was teaching myself ukulele and guitar. Once I got to high school I signed up for marching band. Growing up my parents put me on to all types of music; rap, r&b, 80’s house, 70’s classical rock ect. and I felt my soul in every genre. I’ve been rapping and singing to music my whole life often performing for family and friends. Life wasn’t easy for me and I often felt that all I had at times was my love for music, it’s kept me going. I always knew it’d always be a big part of my life, it’s part of my entire being.
What do you love most about your profession?
What I love most about this profession is that it’s very therapeutic for me. Emotions are complicated and sometimes words just aren’t enough, and if my music helps anyone the way it helps me, then I’ve done everything I was meant to do and ima keep doing it.
Tell us more about what you do?
Im simply writing my life and making it into music. When my first project drops it’ll be a detailed novel about what I’ve been through and why I am the way I am. I know there’s millions of people who’ve been in my situation; all I care about is helping them and giving them a voice; making them feel heard/understood.
When did you discover that you had a passion for this field?
I discovered my passion for music since before I could speak properly, I went through a phase at a very early age where all i wanted to do is dance, if there was music I was dancing, and growing up as a Latina my family made it a point to teach me how to dance very young which only strengthened my love.
Who in your field do you look up...
My mom always played artists such as “Lauryn Hill”, “J Cole”, “Miguel” and “Kendrick” but played a lot of Spanish artists as well such as “Tego Calderon”, “Ivy Queen”, “Frankie Ruiz”, “Marc Anthony” and “Romeo santos” while she was either cooking/cleaning, driving, at “get togethers” ect. However Lauryn hill is definitely my biggest inspiration in this field because of the way she tells truth and hardships so poetically; with her flawless transitions between rapping and singing…. She got me through a lot and still does. My mom’s boyfriend was a northerner and that’s where my love for rappers such as “Big Pun” “Notorious B.I.G” “Cam’ron” “The diplomats” “Joey badass” and “Mobb Deep” came from (along with many others as such). My love for ATL trap music was influenced heavily by my aunt on my mom’s side (who is now my manager) and my surroundings growing up in Atlanta. Rappers such as “Young thug” “21 savage” “future” and many other ATL rappers we all love and grew up listening to. I couldn’t be more blessed with the music influences I have truthfully.
